Can Haz Dj

Can Haz DJ marathon finale starts at 8pm TONIGHT (Tuesday)

March 27, 2012
12:01 pm

My cat Anime is nodding off here, but music fans know you can’t nap through a show that plays The Fall, Califone, T Rex, Mouse on Mars, Graham Parker, Firewater, and music from the “Return of the DJ” & “Modulations & Transformations” compilations. I mean how does that show even EXIST?

Well, it won’t for long, I’m doing my last Can Haz DJ show on Radio Valencia tonight starting early (for me) at 8pm and running until 2am. 6 hours. That’s 25% of a whole day! And I still, definitely cannot fit everything in that I’d like to.

I am going out with an extended echoey bang. Playing Jazz, Punk, Rap, Glitch and other Electronica, good old rock and roll, plus New Wave, Dub, country-dust-songwriting-Americana-whaddyacallit, a horde of amazing covers, and a bit of everything else. Want to make a request? Do that here (soon!)

Don't Sleep! Last Can Haz DJ show on RadioValencia.fm

The Can Haz DJ finale, tune in tonight 3/27/2012 starts at 8pm

10pm Tuesday: Can Haz Penultimate: last 2 shows for a while

March 20, 2012
11:19 am

I’ve made the difficult decision to put the weekly Can Haz DJ on hiatus at the end of March. No major crisis, just need the time for other things. So for two more weeks, I’ll be playing an eclectic mix of my favorite music of all time. From Panacea to Kanda Bongo Man and Zap Mama to Adam Ant. Tune in tonight (3/20) at 10pm and next Tuesday (3/27) for the big finale.

I’ll keep up the Facebook page and maybe even a rare blog post. And I’ll add to the pile of Can Haz DJ podcasts from a pile that are in need of cover photos, playlists and a little editing..

Don’t believe me on the eclectic thing? Okay, here are two guitar extremes for ya. Both would make my top 100 songs of all time. Which I’ve been contemplating recently. That’s a personal top 100, your mileage should vary. John McLaughlin covering Mingus’ Goodbye Porkpie Hat (not my favorite version, I’ll save that for the show) and Karma to Burn’s “Twenty”. Enjoy. (mikl-em)

Astrophe knows. I'll be retiring my @CanHazDJ show at the end of March. I'm taking time off from radio for a bit. So catch the next 2 shows while you can. Tuesdays at 10pm.

Tuesday 10pm (tonight!) Can Haz DJ on shuffle

March 13, 2012
6:22 pm

It’s Tuesday night and it’s time for Can Haz DJ, but there’s no set theme tonight. Sometimes I need to be low concept and high spontaneity. You’ll have to trust me as I spin through my music collection–we’ll see where inspiration and happenstance take us. I figure there’ll be some Fall and Saints and a bunch of electronic music thrown in, too. Something by Califone is bound to turn up. Here are videos by South African electronic guy Felix Laband and Television, while you are waiting.

CanHazDJ tonight @10pm: Dub Hungover & March Come a Lion!

March 6, 2012
6:37 pm

Tonight @ 10pm: March comes in like songs about Lions. We are feline-oriented on CanHazDJ, so there’ll be songs about cats (& no Monkees whatsoever) on tonight’s show. The official end of Dub Month was last week (podcast/playlist for the show is below). But there’s always more to play, so expect flashbacks of dub amongst the cats plus lots more music of many genres on the as-usual eclectic Can Haz DJ show.

Can Haz DJ: February is Dub Month!

February 7, 2012
1:25 pm

I’ve declared it Dub Month on Can Haz DJ For the first show of dub month, I kicked it off with a wide range of dub-related musics, including punk dub from The Clash, Ruts, Slits and Stiff Little Fingers. The podcast is posted here.

You’ll hear original Jamaican dub as well as more recent electronic versions, and musicians of all styles who have incorporated dub into their work, or have dub-style remixes of their music. Including punk, rap, industrial, and many world musics. toward the end of the night, you’ll hear dub-meets-ambient styles that are appropriate for the show’s 1AM end time.

Hear are videos of some of the music you are likely to hear on my shows this month:

Can Haz DJ: we’ll be rocking tonight @10pm

October 25, 2011
9:44 pm

Tonight at 10pm on Can Haz DJ I’ll be playing indie/punk/math from the locales of San Diego, Chicago, Louisville & Richmond VA. Maybe a bit from DC, Baltimore, SF & Portland, too. That means bands n’ music like these here below, see what you think:

And a bunch of music that’s not at all like this, as I keep up the usual level of diversity in the Can Haz DJ playlist. Some new electronic music, a flashback to last week’s Monk theme. And some more Halloweenish music as it is less than a week away, after all.
