This week, “DJ AmperDan’s Monday Night Pop!” again continued in its usual format of playing the Best of The Bay Area’s underground indie Pop and Rock scene. Just Maximum Bay Area Pop, highlighting upcoming local performances, a few new releases, and a whole bunch of current favorites. Results: another fine show.

One of the cool things about following the Bay Area concert calendar, and letting it dictate what I play, is each week my show takes on the flavor of the scene. Some weeks it’s upbeat and very poppy, like last week; some weeks, it’s hard are rockin’; and others, like this week, it’s more mellow and easy going. And I hope my show reflects the ever-changing mood of the city’s musical scene.

This week I was also feeling a bit reflective, and chose songs from some “older” recordings. Like “Glow” from The Trophy Fire. It’s not their latest track, or even from their latest album (which is brilliant none the less), but I just wanted to hear that opening guitar line at that particular moment.

Maybe this reflective mood was inspired by Box Set, the band that I was very into in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, reuniting for the benefit of the Bazaar Café on Clement Street. I couldn’t go to either of those two shows, but I was there in spirit. A few videos from those two nights posted on YouTube reminded me of just why I was so enamored of Box Set in those days. Jeff and Jim still have a special magic that few others have. And I was feeling nostalgic for those Misfit days.

Ah, well . . . such is what it is. And that’s the show. I’m not sure what underlying narrative the podcast will reveal, but I’m anxious to hear. As is, per usual, my psychoanalyst. Though she never tells me what she thinks . . .
