To celebrate the vast production of HIGH ART that ROGER WATERS put on last knight at AT and T park (for tens of thousands of young hipster stoners and old disenfranchised hippee refugees who were all chanting quotes from the sprawling not-so-mellow dramatic work in unison whilst riding muni to the surreal ballpark setting) tonight’s episode of INTERSTELLAR NIHILISM harkens back to 197?, at the point of conception Pink Floyd’s most seminal and ultimately TERMINAL work, when Mr. Waters recorded a full 70 minutes of completed songs as demos for that would become the most gargantuan rock opera ever: “the WALL” and originally conceived as a heartfelt tribute to the infamous psychedelic downfall of Floydian comrade in arms SYD BARRETT . When I was listening to these demos during the show you’ll notice I felt compelled to insert some lugubrious diatribe hear and there but most notably commenting on the fact that Roger sounds like he’s doing a BAD IMITATION of BOB DYLAN on a lot of his singing parts! I’m totally thrown by this. I mean WTF Rog’? You had an amazing voice even back then and you cycle back to a rehashed Bob Dylan tribute? So IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when my date and I show up early to the THE WALL perf. only to hear that Roger’s personally selected choice for pre-show ambiance setting music consists of primarily OLD BOB DYLAN TUNES!!!

If you really want to gauge what the fringe element is thinking in these crazy daze just LISTEN TO THIS SHOW!…and be afraid. VERY Afraid…cuz with proposed solutions such as these, I’d prefer to stick to enjoying the PROBLEM.
Thank the Odds that we have the scintillating sounds of BAND OF SKULLS to distract us from such low strangeness, and they succesfully distracted the FUCK out of me and my rockin’ new pal Emily (from across the pond). I’d like to thank her hear and now for turning me on to their gorgeous noise and taking me to their fab show last night. Thank you milady cuz I knead more ROCK n ROLL in my life!! (Hmmm, maybe rock ‘n’ roll ISN”t about to die after all with stalwart supporters like last nights crowd at the FILLMORE boppin’ around).

But we actually started out last night’s INTERSTELLAR NIHILISM Thursday knight FEVER #7 with a fantastic collaboration: SOUTH CENTRAL and GARY NUMAN’s “Crawl” from last year’s “Society Of The Spectacle” album. And truer words were never voiced (in song or otherwise) in a more timely fashion.

More new discoveries abound as I cerebrate my introduction to the warped digital landscape of S.K.E.T. and hear 2 tracks from their “Aktivist” release.

Hey! WTF?!! Where’d they all go?
“Revolution of the Pigs” indeed.

Next we reorder our priori-tease with HECQ and Nongenetic’s timely rant “I Will Survive” from the 2009 STEELTONGUED Release.

And then NEON INDIAN offers a great new EP in “FALLOUT” (i.e. the RADIOACTIVE one that’s now DEFINITELY Hitting our southern coast. Yummy, Guys! it’s time for a RAD change to our diets!

Now just to remind us of the MISOGYNY-based misgivings that got this planetful of pussified puss-puss-pursuers to the strange place we RRR today, the BAND OF SKULLS trot out a fantastic line/ song title in “You’re Not Pretty But You Got It
Goin’ On” from their fantastic new album “Sweet Sour” (And sadly one of the few songs they DID NOT PLAY at the Fillmore last night…WAUUGGGH!!!).

That’s OK cuz another militant new discovery waits in the wings with MILITIA demonstrating for us “The Conquest of Steel” from their new “Power!, Propaganda! Production!” CD.

And whilst on this happy gone-lucky roll let’s hear a little knell from DEATH OF THE WEST’s covers only project COVERED WAGON. Bringing you a whiggity-whacked reinterpretation of the classic EDWARD KA-SPEL track “Hotel Y the fuknot” (Space kazoo mix) offers a fresh moment of love despair for us all sung by Mister Deadwood Dick hissownself….Yupppee!

BUt now its time for a true distraction, mayhaps even a bit of levity and for this we turn to storyteller / ranconteur RANDY GRIEF’s most curious release to date: a surreally soundtracked and effected reading of ALICE IN WONDERLAND (witch we shalt be delving into much more deeply on an upcoming Friday all-knight installment of INTERSTELLAR NIHILISM). Tonight’s selection from disc 4 (of 6): “shall i try the experiment?”

Next a couple of songs with video game sounds of armaggeddon in them (because nuclear war is so much more POLITE when depicted as a VIDEO GAME!)
From 1980′s “Laughoncue” LP it’s RADIO FREE EUROPE with “It Likes You”

and then: originally released on the “Three-Minute Symphonies” compilation LP in the mid 80′s
but now to be found on the “Stained Glass Soma Fountains” 2 CD Anthology, it’s the LEGENDARY PINK DOTS with “No Bell, No Prize” (and what a fun song to SING, Too!:
“they stretchered…SYLVie Awaaaayyyy!!!!”…Yessss!!!)

And starting off our serenity filled space-out section we have the infinitely blissed track “Voice” from DEAD VOICES ON AIR’s new release “Michael and the Angels Fought” (lens records – 2011)

Another sweet new discovery of space zounds was to be found for me this week in TYCHO and so we hear the track “Melanine” next from their newest release called “Dive” (on Ghostly International records)

Another deep and long track by another deep and long (and Chilly!) discovery this week in NATURAL SNOW BUILDINGS new release “Chants of Niflheim” (blackest rainbow, 2011). The final track on the release entitled “H. Scudder” was simply too ear-resistable to not play in its entirety.

And finally returning to our HEAD LINING act this evening:
The SKULLBANDS…er..I meant to say

the BAND OF SKULLS see us out with the grand lead vocals of Emma Richardson on the album’s closing track “Close to Nowhere”. (Dang it I wish we had heard more songs sung by her in their live set but I guess there must be a glASS ceiling in Rock and Roll too!)

In conclusion I’d like to apologize to anybody out there who listened to toknight’s show hoping for a Good Time Charlie
and got a big-time metaphysical Charlie-HORSE.

Yes I’m highly STRANGE and I’m strangely HIGH…that’s DOKTOR SLEEPLESS’ modus operandi…
and on last weeks show we skipped out to the WARFIELD to see a FANTASTIC SHOW by the SLEIGH BELLS. BUt that didn’t mean we aired a “rebroadcast” ohhhh no siree! We were in two places at once: on the air at R.V. and at the show with S.B. diggin to the zounds of SLEIGH BELLS in both instances and the show was in fact DEDICATED to GRRLS with GEETARS featuring the amazing work of DROWNER / Grouper / CLAIRE VOYANT / Carter-Tutti-Void / DIANA ROGERSON (The Inevitable Chrystal Belle Scrodd) and SLEIGH BELLS (playing live tonight at the WARFIELD witch is where I am RIGHT NOW as this program errs!)

At the Beginning of 2012 I heard many similar predictions by different psychics on Coast 2 Coast AM Radio suggesting that 2012 was going to be an amzingly strong year for new music and here we are only 4 months into it and I have to say I already feel as though that prediction has been wholly validated.
The 2nd TUesday KNight Spatial I’ve done is dedicated to the AVALANCHE of Fantastic new dream music starting with my old burg’s fantastic new band DROWNER from HOUSTON: began as a side project in 2010, we present tonight their debut full-length. And I must say that in a heartbeat these folks have become a new favorite. While there maybe inevitable comparisons made to sucj progenitors of this territory as The Cocteau Twins or even the vocal arrangements of THe Carpenters, its the lush power chord based guitar compositions acting as a counterpoint to some of the richest female choral arrangents I’ve ever chanced upon. The harmonies…o goddess… the lush Guitar/vocal HARMONIES from INNER SPACE! I’m Looking forward to hearing MORE! When are you guys TOURING?!

Next up we have CONCESSIONAIRRES with “Artificial Interface” (Under the Spire 2012) (Please don’t remind me I got it wrong in the blackannounce…) with an album filled with nuance, ambiance, all the “-ances” you can think of….

Then the excruciatingly gorge-us ‘Ballads of the Research Dept.” storms its way silently onto the errwaves brought to you by BOATS….

But seriously this is one dreamy ride with multi-instrumentalist disciplines ranging from Toy pIano to lush orchestral arrangements.

I was very excited about going to read on the STORYTELLERS (airing live on wednesdays at midknight hear on radio valencia.fm) for the 1st time in months. I even brought a darling guest upon whom I was hoping to make a positive impression. It was during the fabulous dinner beforehand that it was casually mentioned that the subject matter of the readings had recently shifted pretty much exclusively to EROTICA. And that was how your erstwhile pal (and host of the Interstellar Nihilism show) DOKTOR SLEEPLESS found himself behind the mic as “SLOPPY SECONDS” reading Susan Bright’s epic tale of lovelorn superhero lust “J’etaime Batman, J’adore”.
