Illogistical Resource Dept on A Season in Hell tonight at 8

April 8, 11am

IRD2_1298524503The Illogistical Resource Dept will be on A Season in Hell tonight at 8PM.

You have got to give this band a listen. This rock, psych, electronic band has been compared to Primus, Pink Floyd and Tool, but I have to tell you they come with a very fresh sound all of their own. Noa (drums), Jim (guitar) and Dan (bass) are all veteran musicians, with some serious chops. Anyone who knows them wonders out loud, how it’s possible they haven’t taken over the world already.

They’re having their CD release party this Saturday night at El Rio in SF. They’ll be talking up the show and playing songs off of their new CD, “Catharsis” tonight at 8PM on Radio Valencia.

Enjoy life. Support local music. Go see live shows.

A Season in Hell #123: That’s President Hell To You

February 20, 9am

lesteryoungIt’s President’s Day in the US, and that means that…um, well, er…I’m not sure what that means. We used to have to holidays in February, one for Washington’s birthday, and one for Lincoln’s birthday. Now it’s all on one day. I guess they figured George and Honest Abe are good guys, but why should they get all the glory? I mean, come on, how about Millard Fillmore, or William Howard Taft? And hey, let’s give it up for my boy James K. Polk!!! Or how about Lester Young?

I got the day off today, which was nice. So I took the time to prepare a tasty treat of a show for you. The first hour features the holiday theme, some of which are a bit subversive. GASP!

Today also marks the 39th anniversary of the release of the first Kiss album, “Kiss”. I pay homage to my first favorite group. I was in the Kiss Army at the age of 5. I truly do want to rock and roll all night, and party every day.

The second hour is all new music, including the great new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds track “Jubille Street”. I can’t wait to see them live at the Civic in San Francisco in April. There is never a lack of great new sounds out there, and leave it to the best radio station west of East Orange, New Jersey to give it to you. I share links for then stuff. Click on it, and go buy their music.

As always, support live, local music.

Best of 2012 with John Hell

December 10, 11pm

Well, here we go again. Can you believe it’s already been a year?!?!

There was so much great music this past year. I have to admit, I really love this particular show. Every year I get to showcase what I believe to be the best music of the year, and this year there are some choice cuts to choose from.

If you listen to my show regularly, then you know that I jump around from genre to genre. Tonight my show features a lot of pop, some metal, some psych. There’s no jazz or hip-hop in my list for tonight. That doesn’t mean there weren’t some fabulous tracks out there, just that none of them really struck my fancy enough to feature them in my Best of 2012. Don’t be a hater. There will be plenty of hip hop and jazz in upcoming shows.

In the meantime, enjoy the show, and spread it around, and for God’s sake, go buy some of this great music, and support live, local music every chance you get!

You can download this Best of, and take it with you everywhere you go.
You can stream this awe-inspiring showcase, and play it for your friends at work.
Perhaps you wish to listen to all of my shows, click here, or just scroll down.

As always, enjoy.

There was so much great music in 2012, it’s going to be hard to squeeze it all into one two-hour show. I’ll do my best though. Tune in and see what John Hell thinks of the year.
