For over 10 years the Ask Dr. Hal show has titillated audiences around San Francisco. The good Doctor will answer your finely-tuned questions, but for a price. I’ll be co-hosting the show along with Dr. Hal, KROB and DJ Justin Credible spinning sexy sounds. There’s lots of acts performing that night as well. Come on up to the Oddfellows hall in Pt. Arena this December 10th. See the flier for details, and come join us.

I’ve always held a special place in my heart for 1971. I wasn’t born in that year. I was born in 1970, but the music from ’71 was simply amazing in so many ways. It was that year that we begin to see the emergence of many genres: R&B, Soul, Blues, and Jazz had already been around for a while, but now more genres of Rock n’ Roll begin to emerge. This is not your father’s Rock n’ Roll. Funk, psychedelic, progressive, and ambient genres begin to really showcase themselves at this time. And of course, some truly classic albums (remember albums?) that the classic rock radio stations play too much of, were released that year.
Tonight on A Season in Hell, with John Hell, I play some of my favorite tunes from that great year. Tune in and enjoy. Heck, you can even download the archived show as well, and enjoy it in 2071.

We’ll be talking about the ballot initiatives as well as the hotly contested mayors race (when isn’t it hotly contested in this town?), sheriff’s race and DA’s race.
I’ve got lots of election-themed music as well.

The ghoul in me just loves a frighteningly good holiday. With a name like Hell how couldn’t I? When I was at KFJC I would fill in the Christmas morning shows every year. I would often play Halloween-themed music that morning.
I digress.
Tonight was all-around fun. Thanks for joining me on the Radio Valencia chatterbox, too. I always enjoy chatting with my listeners.

Julie Anderson of Altered Barbie was in the studio tonight talking about the 9th annual exhibition, which begins this week at 50 Shotwell. I MCd this event a couple of times, and it’s so amazing to see what people do with their Barbie dolls once they’ve grown out of playing with them.
Julie brought the Jenny Kerr band with her to play a few tunes. They’ll be playing the opening night reception on Friday night. I really encourage you to take a listen to the podcast of this show, and then head on over there on Friday night. You’ll love ’em.
Some new music tonight from Tom Waits and Bonny Prince Billy, and some americana from Dave Alvin, Jimmy Dale Gilmore and more.
Enjoy.
