Malderor – DJ Deathwish, Keith Richards, and Novelty Songs

October 26, 2015
2:27 pm

keefThis was a somewhat unusual episode. Malderor had watched a new Keith Richards documentary, (directed by his Academy-Award-winning-friend™, Morgan Neville) so the playlist has some of the old blues standards featured in the film. Then there’s some focus on the new Killing Joke release, and an inexplicable detour into comedy novelty songs.  (Some of which, but not all, were by request. Normally Malderor hates comedy music, but here we are.)  Check it out below:

2:03pm: Holy War by The Lords Of The New Church

2:06pm: Never by JennyLee

2:09pm: Apotheosis by Killing Joke

2:22pm: Ain’t Gonna Take It Anymore by Whitey Morgan

Malderor – Zero Preparation and DJ Deathwish

October 18, 2015
8:31 pm

argy-bargy-header

Malderor had basically zero time this week to prepare for the show, so we don’t have the usual complement of new music. Instead you can expect a show chock-full of old-school punk rock, some cuts from the Supersucker’s new country record, and some stoner metal from some band Malderor met last night at the Golden Bull in Oakland called “Them Evils.” DJ Deathwish does turn up to help out with the mid-song banter, and the show turned out better than one might expect. Check it out!

2:07pm: You Sound Like You’re Sick by The Ramones

2:07pm: Cold Black Love by Them Evils

2:09pm: All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down) by The Supersuckers

2:15pm: Skankin’ To The Beat by Fishbone

2:19pm: Sappy (Demo) by Kurt Cobain

2:21pm: Shells and Spells (Demo) by The Gentle Cycle

2:39pm: The Serenade Is Dead by Conflict

2:39pm: Riot 77 by Total Chaos

2:42pm: So Many Lies by Argy Bargy

2:54pm: Riot Squad (Live at the Great American Music Hall) by Cock Sparrer

2:59pm: Anger and Fear by The Partisans

3:02pm: Time Bomb by Blitz

3:04pm: 53rd and Third by The Ramones

3:09pm: Left 4 Dead by Rat Boy

3:10pm: Euphoria by Killing Joke from Pylon

3:15pm: Scenario by The Beastie Boys from Pump Up The Volume Soundtrack

3:24pm: Funky Frankenstein by Chaki

Malderor Welcomes City College Board Candidate Tom Temprano

October 12, 2015
11:39 am

TOM-TEMPRANO-full-size-sign2In a rare stab at actual “journalism”, Malderor welcomes City College Board candidate Tom Temprano to the Radio Valencia studios, for a wide-ranging chat.  They talk about City College, obviously, but also get into Tom’s background as co-owner of Virgil’s Sea Room and as a DJ at spectacularly popular local party “Hard French” at the El Rio.  And then the second hour of the show is all the new and unreleased music you’ve come to expect on the ‘Catastrophe, with added guests Uncle Kevin and DJ Deathwish.  (Apologies to the regular listeners, but I straight-up forgot to do the Bad Religion SAT word-of-the-week this time around.)

Playlist:

2:55pm: Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts by Less Than Jake

2:56pm: Sound System by Operation Ivy

2:57pm: 15th Street Ghetto Song by Monkey

2:57pm: Shining Light by Toots and The Maytals

Malderor – Repeated Songs And Telephone Problems

July 20, 2015
7:13 pm

IMG_3138

It was sweltering in the Mission, and Malderor decided to do a weird, difficult-to-describe theme. Since the show is almost entirely new music on a normal week, there are literally thousands of songs that Malderor played once on his show, then relegated to the dustbin of history. So this week he’s playing stuff he played once, then filed away and forgot about. Features a surprising amount of covers, and some bands that went on to go multi-platinum.

Oh, and some fine individual unplugged the phone from the already-delicate phone-system, so Malderor’s attempts to contact the outside world met with frustration and failure.
