This week on Mindtrain I featured selections from Gavin Friday’s recent CD Catholic. His first solo album in sixteen years, in its best moments it harkens back to his 1989 Hal Wilner-produced masterpiece, Each Man Kills The Thing He Loves. Then there were numerous excerpts from a couple of my favorite soundtracks: Ry Cooder’s score for Paris, Texas and Simon Fisher Turner’s ambient soundtrack to Derek Jarman’s Caravaggio. I also included a 30-minute recorded live performance from 1977 of an early orchestral work by Pauline Oliveros, To Valerie Solanas And Marilyn Monroe In Recognition Of Their Desperation, released on LP a couple of years back.
