Show #48: Whippings and Apologies
November 30, 2014 10:00pm
With the holiday season upon us, let's beat ourselves silly with sonic pleasures from all over and abandon our compass for two hours as we change direction outta November, 2014. (Sheesh, what a week!)
Show #47: B Sides The Point Vol. 4!
November 23, 2014 10:00pm
We here at W!C!P! are all about records. We like all kinds but, there’s something real special about the beloved 7″ or “45”. Back in the day, artists depended on singles to achieve their way to the top of the charts and later on independent artists relied on the 7″ format to sell at shows (inexpensively) to get their music into our hot little hands.
Every 7″ record has an “A” side that usually contains the “hit” or a song the artist obviously wants you to experience first. But sometimes on the “B” side is where things get interesting. Either labeled as “throwaways” or experimental recordings for particular artists, these tracks would sometimes become a hit themselves or be found deep on an album buried between other non hit songs; OR the assigned “B” side track just remained an orphan of sorts, existing solely beneath “A” territory.
Wax! Crackle! Pop! proudly presents a series, every other month (or so), where we exclusively investigate the other side, flipping it all over and that’s B SIDES THE POINT. Vinyl geek, B side enthusiasts John Seden and John Everett are regular guests!

Show #46: Ladies, please!
November 16, 2014 10:00pm
In an effort to minimize this sometimes saturated "boys club" in rock n roll, DJ Jim G takes initiative and dedicates two hours to the ladies. It's always ladies night on W!C!P! but, let's celebrate with some of our favorite women artists. On this episode, some of the BEST singers and songwriters of any gender.
Show #45: Records, Reptiles and Teenage Sex Therapy with Owen Maercks!
November 9, 2014 10:00pm
Folks! I'm super excited to have Owen Maercks as my special guest on this episode of Wax! Crackle! Pop! Owen made a pretty incredible album, titled "Teenage Sex Therapist" that just saw a full on vinyl release - 36 years AFTER it was produced and performed with Henry Kaiser among others. Talk about "ahead of it's time", this is truly a lost gem of avant power pop rock jazz and THEN SOME that you all must hear. And a great story to boot.
In addition to Owen's musical adventures with Kaiser, he is also co-owner of the East Bay Vivarium (in Berkeley), the largest reptile house west of the Mississippi and is an avid record collector with more than 14,000 LP's in his collection. On this episode, Owen brought a few records sharing some of his biggest influences and a few super rare gems. Hey, let's pop!

Show #43: Power Pop & Lock the Inner Sunset with The Paul & John
October 26, 2014 10:00pm
Seasoned Music Veterans Paul Myers and John Moremen aka The Paul and John are my guests as we celebrate their beautiful new album, THE INNER SUNSET, as well as venture into other musical projects (Gravelberrys, Floatation Device, The Orange Peels) and discuss their process, peers and influences. Along the way we shed some light on a few power pop gems and drop in a few dark passageways for good measure. Tis the season.

October 19, 2014 10:00pm
San Francisco native & living rock n roll legend ROY LONEY is our guest as we dedicate two hours exclusively to the man and his many fine bands and projects. From growing up in SF, hanging out with the likes of Janis, the Jefferson Airplane, and Kim Fowley to playing the Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom regularly during the psychedelic salad days. We also go deep with plenty of Phantom Movin', loads of Teenage Head and much more!

Show #41: Rocktober! Satan Is Real Again
October 12, 2014 10:00pm
W!C!P! frequent guest, good buddy, and San Francisco based musician Dana Berry (bitterwind, Night Herons) helps Jim G usher in Rocktober! with some devilish and creepy choice slabs of killer vinyl. Pedal to the metal!
Show #40: Driving, Bo Diddley, and tortured hippie dreams
September 28, 2014 10:00pm
Lordy, Lordy. Show number forty! The nights are getting longer and we're reaching the peak of Indian Summer. On this day a perfect crescent moon hung on, low in the sky, due west. Once I crossed the bay bridge that evening, the moon disappeared behind a blanket of fog. Typical, San Francisco. So long, September.
Show #39: Feelings with Chuck Prophet and John Murry
September 21, 2014 10:00pm
Look out, Ladies. And Gents. Wax! Crackle! Pop! presents the tortured bro affair that is between Chuck Prophet and John Murry. For the first time in W!C!P! history (and probably the last) we opened up the phone lines as Chuck and John really wanted to hear from you, dear listeners. Risks were taken, advice was given, and feelings were hurt. We even managed to play some tunes too. Not for the faint hearted or those sensitive to the touch!
Show #38: September Sides
September 14, 2014 10:00pm
September brings us Bay Areans an interesting twist in the seasonal conundrum that much of California is used to. As the days are getting shorter, the fog tends to subside and Bay Area water is still too cool, yet calm. This is what’s coined as “Indian Summer”. Summer weather is never better here, however for many us, Sept. means fall. Our minds are engaged for another shift, school is back in session yet, the outside is calling. Evening daylight is fleeting and we just want to hold on to that summer feeling a bit longer . . . sometimes music helps.
Show #37: Dreamin' & Spielin' with Mike Watt
August 31, 2014 10:00pm
There aren't a lot of guys in punk rock (or rock & roll, period) who appear to have their feet more squarely on the ground than Mike Watt, who in his own regular-guy way has been the heart, soul and conscience of the music ever since his days playing bass in the Minutemen. A musical team player who lives by the notion of "jamming econo" (living and touring frugally, with an eye on the music rather than the trappings), Watt took some time out to converse with DJ Jim G about bass, Pedro, D Boon, The Stooges, opera and his latest project, with fellow musicians Stefano Pilia and Andrea Belfi, in the more experimental post-rock power trio Il Sogno Del Marinaio.
Show #36: Below us, ROCK! And behold, it's power to roll.
August 24, 2014 10:00pm
After the bay area woke up (3:30 am local time) to the biggest quake felt in 25 years, people were quickly reminded how we "Californians" still live in a volatile area. Despite the tech industry's cultural bulldozering approach to SF or the on going drought that is slowly paralyzing our resources, Mother Earth is awake underneath and will have the last word. (not) An Irwin Allen production.
Show #35: New emotions
August 17, 2014 10:00pm
Dear listeners, we're at our midway point through August as summer's exit beckons. Lots of mixed feelings as we march forward into fall, losing San Francisco's (and the world's) beloved Robin Williams. Infamous Candlestick Park has now signed up for detonation, but not without an amazing concert there by Sir Paul McCartney first to bid adieu; almost 48 years to the day when The Beatles played their last public concert there. Hark! Fall is around the corner. The best time to be by the bay.
Show #34: Augustus is among us
August 10, 2014 10:00pm
Summer is rolling along, but, dare I say, the end is nigh! Warm summer breezes flows through the city by the bay with a full super moon lurking above the golden gate. Ah, summer let's hold on a bit longer...
Show #33 1/3: Long Play Microgroove
August 3, 2014 10:00pm
Hey! It's our 33rd show, so let's kick it up one-third of a notch, eh? After all we're here to play you RECORDS. The LP (Long Play), or 33 1⁄3 rpm microgroove vinyl record, is a format for phonograph (gramophone) records, an analog sound storage medium. Introduced by Columbia Records in 1948, it was soon adopted as a new standard by the entire record industry. Apart from relatively minor refinements and the important later addition of stereophonic sound capability, it has remained the standard format for vinyl albums.
Show #32: References to the sea or 30 years of NZ pop
July 27, 2014 10:00pm
Special guest, rockologist, and former KDVS DJ Micah Brenner joins DJ Jim G with presenting TWO hours of sounds from Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin NEW ZEALAND. This tiny country that lies on the edge of the globe has produced some of the best indie off kilter rock ever. From The Clean to The Chills to Alastair Galbraith to Dadamah and much more!
Show #31: Rock It to the Moon
July 20, 2014 10:00pm
Space is thee place, dear listener! And on this very night (that we originally aired), July 20, astronauts landed on our very own moon 45 years ago. So, for this episode, fellow music nut and astro-nut John Everett returns and helps me send y'all into orbit with 2 hours of moondawgs, moonchilds, and moonrawk!
We also give pause and look to the stars where celebrated actor James Garner and guitar wizard Johnny Winter have now returned to. Space is deep…

July 13, 2014 10:00pm
San Francisco photographer, journalist and music junkie Dave Pehling aka Sasquatch Borracho joins me tonight as we blow up some DEEP COVERS. Dave has a new monthly DJ night at Slate in SF's Mission district playing all covers and genre hopping like nobody's bizness. Tonight's rockathon offers a sweet little taste.
