A Weekly Dive Into John Hell's Live Bootleg Library
John Hell's Live Bootleg Bonanza - Monday 6-8PM Pacific - Primus July 31, 2010
November 1, 2021 6:00pm
It seems like yesterday I was seeing Primus at some local dive around the Bay Area. They were the local band my friends and I would go see on a regular basis, along with Limbomaniaca, Fungo Mungo, Bug, Deli Creeps, Mr. Bungle, The Melvins, and any other off-color group that were hanging around SF back in the late 80s and early 90s.
When they opened for Rush we all knew they were headed great places. And look at them now! I'll admit I stopped seeing them regularly after that. I was harder to get in to the smaller venues once they hit the big time. And I wasn't really into seeing them at a larger place. I think the largest place I ever saw them was The Warfield and perhaps the greek Theater in Berkeley.
But what a show they put on! The crowd was always loud and into singing along. Those are some fond memories. And I'm happy for where this band has gone, and the many projects Les Claypool has taken on.
Tonight I have an excellent digital soundboard to share with you all, from Bridgeport, Connecticut, July 31, 2010. Most of the songs are from their first few records, which I love.
Tune in and hear me tell the tale of being present when they recorded "Suck On This" in 1988. Fun story, and my 4 year old son is a part of it.
