The Curated Catastrophe - Put Your Hands Together
April 20, 2025 2:00pm
Shey and Malderor are back in the studio, blissfully ignoring the obvious themes of "Easter" and "4/20", and instead doing a show about...hands? Hands. That was the theme apparently. Hands. Anyway, there's a WHOLE lotta music from the turn of the century for some reason, and also an unseemly amount of whining. Plus a double shot of Bad Religion SAT "Words of the Week," since neither word was remotely challenging. As ever, the show was held together with bailing wire, mediocre internet service, and the jiggling of wires. Check out the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - The Sickness
April 13, 2025 2:00pm
A show about germs, sickness, and disease. This was a holdover theme from several weeks back, when Malderor had to cancel the show, as he was too germ-ridden to go out in public. Unfortunately, Malderor STILL has a pesky nagging cough, so the theme was deemed still-worthy for this week's topic. Shey appears to have escaped the death-plague, but is fine mocking Malderor for his maladies. Plus: a visit from The Alchemist! Download the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - Uh...Snakes?
March 16, 2025 2:00pm
Shey and Malderor are back in the studio and working with a theme. Apparently at 10:56pm on Saturday night, Malderor texted Shey "Snakes? St. Patrick's Related?" So they did a show about snakes. (There is a surprisingly large reservoir of songs about snakes, it must be said.) Anyway, it's all explained in the episode, so you'll want to hammer that "download" or "stream" button, or whatever the kids are doing these days.

The Curated Catastrophe - Another Solo Adventure
January 26, 2025 2:00pm
Shey was abruptly called away on assignment, so the planned "themed" show for this episode went out the window, or was postponed til a later date anyway. Malderor wings it alone, without much plan. This enables him to play some new releases from the dancey and/or droney end of the spectrum, a little bit of current pop-punk, and also some tracks from the "festival bands" episode we did last summer. It's pretty "free-form", so give it a listen:

The Curated Catastrophe - The Best Of, Or The Best We Could Do
December 29, 2024 2:00pm
While the debate continues as far as whether "themed" episodes are the way forward, it was generally considered a good idea to take it easy for the rest of the year. So Shey and Malderor decided to do a "best of 2024" episode theme, or at least a "best we could manage" theme. So they played some of their more-favored tracks from the previous year's broadcasts. Shenanigans ensue. Check out the podcast.

The Curated Catastrophe - Letters, Messages, and Correspondence
December 22, 2024 2:00pm
Malderor and Shey are still debating whether they like doing shows based around a theme, but it's also the idle time at the end of the year where nobody feels like working too hard. So they picked a theme about correspondence, mail, postage, and letters, to give them something to center the show around this week. For some reason the US Postal Service has been in the news recently, so there is some passing commentary on that whole situation. And lots of songs about letters. Check out the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - Freeform Goodness, From Shoegaze To Powerpop
November 24, 2024 2:00pm
There wasn't much preproduction or preparation from either party this week, so this is a seat-of-the-pants episode from Shey and Malderor. There is a set of new-ish shoegaze, some bands Malderor is going to see live in the coming weeks, and somehow we end up exploring the definition of "powerpop." And Shey plays Dave Matthews. So, yeah, it's what you've come to expect from the Catastrophe. Give it a download, won't you?

The Curated Catastrophe - Biblical Bullshit
October 20, 2024 2:00pm
Shey and Malderor left it a bit late as far as deciding on what the show would be about, so they once again went to the Bob Dylan Radio Hour, threw a dart at the board, and ended up with "The Bible." Shey turns out to have rather more knowledge on this subject than Malderor. This episode was also intended as a sort of antidote to last week's smutty-smutty smut-fest. So we get all Biblical and shit. Check out the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - Drive-Ins, Blacksploitation, and Sexploitation Funk
October 13, 2024 2:00pm
This was another odd one. Malderor had recently found a vinyl record of oddball wah-wah funk from Drive-In-Theater Trailers, Kung Fu movie credit scenes, and Blacksploitation and "Sexploitation" films. Shey understood that as "porno music", so this show is, um, a bit raunchy. (This was made more awkward because Malderor's mom was apparently tuned in for all of these ribald selections.) Still and yet, if you enjoy the "boom chicka wow-wow" of classic porn music, this show is loaded with things you can enjoy in the privacy of your own home! Check out the podcast!

The Curated Catastrophe - Hot, Hot, Sexy, Hotness.
October 6, 2024 2:00pm
The Mission is an inescapable hotbox of sweaty miserable heat, and Malderor and Shey are back in the studio to groan about it. At some point the station melts down and it's impossible to tell if the show is still on the air, so an air of resignation fills the room. As do heat-mirages in the middle distance. Good Christ, it's so hot.

The Curated Catastrophe - Beautiful Days and Small-Font Festival Bands
September 1, 2024 2:00pm
In a rare instance of cooperation, Shey and Malderor actually worked from the same theme today. That was "bands playing non-headlining spots at recent festivals." So Shey played a bunch of the opening acts from Outside Lands and the Stern Grove Festival, while Malderor focused on the Beautiful Days Festival, and other festivals around the English countryside. There is also discussion of Malderor's recent adventures in plumbing. Give the podcast a spin now!

The Curated Catastrophe - Vast Oceans Of Psych Rock
August 18, 2024 2:00pm
Shey and Malderor are back in the studio this week. Shey has an unannounced theme of "Ocean Songs" she failed to share in advance, while Malderor was playing newer bands he never got around to reviewing for POW Magazine, of a psych and international shoegaze bent. There's also a recording of somebody giving their frank opinions of the CVS pharmacy hold-music. Somehow it kinda all works together, except for that one song Shey played. Give the podcast a spin and let us know what you think!
